10-YEAR-OLD GIRL DIES AFTER KNIFE ATTACK AT SCHOOL — TEEN SUSPECT AND PARENTS DETAINED

A school community in Istanbul, Turkey, is mourning the death of 10-year-old Eslem Sare Bulut after a knife attack left several children injured.
The attack took place on October 6 at Şeyh Şamil Imam Hatip Middle School in the Başakşehir district. According to Turkish officials, eight students were injured when a 15-year-old girl allegedly entered the school carrying a knife and attacked pupils.
Eslem was taken to Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital, where doctors tried to save her life. Despite emergency treatment, she died from her injuries.
The remaining seven injured students were also taken to hospital. Authorities initially reported that some had serious injuries, while others suffered less severe wounds.
Officials said the teenage suspect attended a different school and was wearing a school uniform when she entered the premises. She was apprehended by school security and handed over to police.

Turkish news agency Anadolu Agency reported that the teenage suspect and both of her parents were later remanded in custody as the investigation continued.
The motive behind the attack has not been publicly established.
As news of Eslem’s death spread, hundreds of mourners gathered for her funeral in the village of Konuklu. Support teams from Turkish education and social services authorities were also sent to help her grieving family.
The tragedy has raised renewed concerns about school safety and the protection of children. Authorities have launched judicial and administrative investigations to establish exactly what happened and whether further safeguards are needed.
For Eslem’s family, however, the immediate reality is an unimaginable loss: a young child whose life ended far too soon.
