Indiana Man Accused of Killing His Mother and Stepfather in Alleged Attack Outside Family Home

A shocking double-homicide investigation in Indianapolis has left a neighborhood shaken after a 38-year-old man was accused of killing his mother and stepfather outside their home while neighbors reportedly watched.
According to PEOPLE, David White was arrested following the alleged October 11 incident. Investigators say the victims were his 75-year-old mother and his 80-year-old stepfather, identified by the coroner’s office as Robert Jay Pottle Jr.
Witnesses reportedly told police that White attacked his stepfather with a shovel. When the older man allegedly tried to take the tool away, White was accused of continuing the attack with a kitchen knife. Investigators also believe his mother was fatally stabbed with garden shears.
Neighbors reportedly said White went inside the house and later emerged wearing only his underwear. When police arrived, he surrendered without incident.

White was being held at the Marion County Jail as authorities prepared the formal case filing. At the time PEOPLE published its report, he was facing two murder allegations, had not yet entered a plea, and did not have a lawyer listed.
The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations have not been proven in court. The case has raised painful questions for the community about how a family tragedy unfolded in front of nearby residents.
