Texas Death Row Inmate Garcia Glenn White’s Final Words Before Execution: An Apology That Left a Lasting Impact

Texas Death Row Inmate Garcia Glenn White’s Final Words: An Apology, a Hymn, and a Message of Love

A Texas death row inmate used his final moments to apologize for the pain he had caused, sing a religious hymn, and deliver a message of encouragement to his loved ones before his execution.

Garcia Glenn White, 61, was executed by lethal injection at the Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville on October 1, 2024. He had spent decades on death row after being convicted of murdering twin sisters Annette and Bernette Edwards, both 16, in Houston in December 1989.

Before the execution began, White addressed the victims’ family and others witnessing his final statement. He expressed regret for his actions and apologized for the suffering he had caused.

“I would like to apologize for all the wrong I have done, and for the pain I’ve caused,” White said, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

He also urged those he was leaving behind to support one another and continue moving forward. In a striking moment, White sang the religious hymn “I Trust in God” before concluding his statement.

White thanked prison staff for treating him with humanity and offered words of encouragement to fellow inmates. His final message included an appeal for people to keep loving one another despite the difficult circumstances surrounding them.

White was sentenced to death in 1996 for the murders of Annette and Bernette Edwards. Their mother, Bonita Edwards, was also killed in the same 1989 incident, although White was not convicted of her murder in that trial.

Authorities later connected White to other killings. He confessed to multiple murders, but the death sentence carried out in October 2024 was imposed for the deaths of the twin sisters.

White’s execution took place after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to intervene in his case. He was pronounced dead at 6:56 p.m. local time.

His final statement brought the case to a close in a way that drew attention beyond the courtroom: an apology from a man facing execution, a religious song, and a final appeal for compassion. For the victims’ loved ones, however, the loss of family members decades earlier remained an enduring part of the story.
