Nick Reiner’s Former Trustee Reveals Nearly $349,000 Payment for His Murder Defense

Nick Reiner’s Former Trustee Claims Nearly $349,000 Was Paid for His Murder Defense

Nick Reiner’s legal battle over his family trust has taken another turn after his former trustee claimed that nearly $349,000 had already been paid toward the defense attorney who previously represented him.

According to a court filing cited by PEOPLE, Paul Kanin, who formerly managed Reiner’s trust, said he authorized a payment of $348,821.14 to attorney Alan Jackson. Jackson represented Reiner for approximately two weeks before withdrawing from the criminal case.

Nick Reiner is charged with the murders of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner, who were found dead at their Los Angeles home in December 2025. Reiner has pleaded not guilty, and the allegations have not been proven in court.

The dispute centers on a trust established by his parents. Reiner has argued that he is entitled to money from the fund and needs access to it to pay for his legal defense and expenses while in custody. He previously claimed that he had not received a distribution he believed was due when he turned 30.

Kanin, in his filing, denied that he had improperly managed the trust. He reportedly said he stopped approving further payments after Reiner’s legal team raised the possibility of using trust money in litigation involving other Reiner family trusts. Kanin argued that this created a potential conflict of interest.

Jackson eventually withdrew from the criminal case, and Reiner is now represented by a public defender.

The financial dispute is separate from the criminal proceedings and remains a matter for the courts. A hearing concerning access to the trust funds was scheduled for October 23, according to PEOPLE.

The case continues to draw attention as Reiner faces serious charges while also challenging the handling of the money his parents set aside for him.
