Georgia School Shooting Suspect Colt Gray Stuns Courtroom With Dramatically Changed Appearance

Georgia School Shooting Suspect Colt Gray Looks Dramatically Different in Court Appearance

Colt Gray, the teenager responsible for the deadly shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia, drew attention during a court appearance after looking markedly different from his earlier booking photograph.

Gray appeared in court in Winder, Georgia, on December 9, 2025, with slicked-back dark hair, glasses and a collared shirt, a striking change from the shoulder-length dyed-blond hair seen in his booking photo following his arrest.

The court appearance was part of the ongoing legal proceedings connected to the September 4, 2024, shooting at Apalachee High School. The attack killed four people: teachers Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie, and students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14. Nine others were injured.

At the hearing, Gray’s defense attorney said a medical evaluation was still incomplete. The assessment was expected to help guide the defense as the case moved forward.

The case has drawn national attention because of the victims’ ages, the loss of two educators and the questions raised about how the shooting unfolded. Families of the victims continue to seek accountability as the legal process examines the circumstances surrounding the attack.

A later development: In July 2026, Gray pleaded guilty to 55 charges. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the killings.
