Kaylee Goncalves’ Parents Break Their Silence After Bryan Kohberger’s Arrest: “We Feel Lucky”
Kaylee Goncalves’ Parents Speak Out After Bryan Kohberger’s Arrest: “We Feel Lucky Knowing We Have Somebody”

The parents of University of Idaho student Kaylee Goncalves spoke publicly about the emotional toll of waiting for an arrest after their daughter and three other students were killed in November 2022.
In an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Steve and Kristi Goncalves described the fear and uncertainty their family experienced during the nearly seven weeks following the killings. For them, knowing that a suspect had been arrested brought some relief, even as they continued to struggle with the devastating loss of their daughter.
“Nothing feels worse than having nobody and just nothing but doubt,” Steve Goncalves said, reflecting on the difficult weeks before the arrest.
Kristi Goncalves described the experience as a nightmare that seemed impossible to escape. She said thoughts of Kaylee and what had happened remained with her throughout the day.

The couple also discussed their views on the investigation. Although Steve had publicly questioned the progress of the case at times, he acknowledged the efforts made by investigators and said he appreciated their work.
Bryan Kohberger was arrested in Pennsylvania on December 30, 2022, and charged in connection with the deaths of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. He later pleaded guilty to the four murders in 2025 and received four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
For Kaylee’s family, the arrest marked a significant moment after weeks of uncertainty, but it could not undo the loss that had changed their lives forever.
