Dad Killed While Shielding His 4-Year-Old Son During Terrifying Home Invasion

A young father in Dallas, Texas, was fatally shot while trying to protect his 4-year-old son during a violent home invasion that left his family devastated.
Juvenal Antero, 24, was at home with his wife, Elizabel Cardenas, and their young son on December 30, 2023, when two men reportedly came to their door. According to Cardenas, one of the men initially asked to borrow a plunger, but the situation quickly took a frightening turn when the intruders forced their way inside.
One suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and ordered the family to get down. As the danger escalated, Cardenas said her husband moved in front of their young son to shield him from the gunfire.
Antero was shot during the confrontation. He was rushed to a hospital but later died from his injuries.
His wife later recalled the terrifying moments, describing how her husband acted to protect their child. The family’s ordeal was made even more heartbreaking by the fact that Cardenas was pregnant with their second child at the time.
In the days following the shooting, relatives and friends gathered to remember Antero. Cardenas described him as her everything and said she hoped others would recognize the courage he showed while protecting their son.
The attack also left the family facing an uncertain future. Cardenas was left to care for their young child while preparing to welcome another baby without her husband.

Dallas police said two suspects were being sought in connection with the fatal home invasion. Investigators continued working to identify those responsible and establish what led to the attack.
For Antero’s family, the tragedy is remembered not only as a violent loss, but as the final act of a father who, according to his wife, put his child’s safety first.
