Texas Good Samaritan Tackles Drunk Driver After Fatal Crash Kills Police Detective and Injures His Family
Texas Good Samaritan Tackles Drunk Driver Who Killed Police Detective in Horrific Crash
A Texas bystander sprang into action after witnessing a devastating crash that killed an off-duty police detective and injured the officer’s wife and two young sons.

The incident occurred in November 2021 at an intersection in Lake Worth, Texas. According to authorities, Dylan Molina, then 26, was driving a rented Jeep when he crashed into a sedan driven by Euless Police Detective Alex Cervantes. The collision killed Cervantes at the scene, while his wife and two children were injured.
Justin Gonzalez, who was traveling behind Cervantes, witnessed the crash and immediately stopped to help. As people rushed toward the damaged vehicles, Gonzalez noticed Molina attempting to leave the scene.
Believing the driver might escape before police arrived, Gonzalez chased after him, tackled him to the ground and held him there until authorities could take control of the situation. Video of the encounter later showed Gonzalez restraining Molina while angrily confronting him about the deadly collision.
Gonzalez later told FOX 4 that instinct and adrenaline drove his actions. He also acknowledged that pursuing a stranger could have put him in danger, but said he felt compelled to prevent the driver from getting away.
Molina eventually accepted a plea deal for intoxication manslaughter and received a 15-year prison sentence, according to Fox News.
The case also drew attention to questions about alcohol service before the crash. A bartender was later arrested in connection with the incident on a misdemeanor charge related to allegedly serving Molina too much alcohol, Fox News reported.

For Gonzalez, the experience was more than a dramatic moment caught on camera. He had witnessed a fatal collision and a family’s life-changing loss firsthand. His decision to intervene helped keep the driver at the scene until police could respond.
