Baby Receives 7 Lifesaving Blood Transfusions Before Birth — Now He’s Finally Home in His Mother’s Arms
Before baby Isaiah Temple could take his first breath, he had already undergone seven lifesaving blood transfusions in the womb.
His mother, Tori McDaniel, faced a frightening pregnancy after doctors discovered that a rare immune condition was causing her body to attack her unborn son’s red blood cells.
Now, following months of uncertainty and intensive medical care, Isaiah is home with his family in Ohio.
A Rare Condition Threatens an Unborn Baby’s Life
Early in her pregnancy, Tori learned that she had developed antibodies capable of crossing the placenta and destroying her baby’s red blood cells.
The condition, known as maternal alloimmunization, placed Isaiah at risk of severe anemia, heart failure, brain damage and even death.
Because the particular antibodies involved could not be controlled with preventive medication, doctors determined that blood transfusions would be necessary to keep him alive.
Seven Blood Transfusions Before His First Breath
Specialists at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center performed Isaiah’s first intrauterine blood transfusion when Tori was just 17 weeks pregnant.
Using ultrasound guidance, physicians carefully delivered blood through a vessel in the baby’s umbilical cord.
Isaiah initially required repeated transfusions as his anemia returned. Each procedure helped doctors extend the pregnancy and give him more time to develop.
By the time he was born, he had received seven transfusions, an unusually high number for an unborn baby treated at the hospital.

A Long-Awaited Arrival and 21 Days in Intensive Care
Isaiah was born on April 20, 2026, after his mother was induced at approximately 36 and a half weeks of pregnancy.
Although his arrival marked an enormous milestone, his medical journey was not yet over.
He spent 21 days in the neonatal intensive care unit, where doctors monitored his anemia and oxygen levels.
He also required additional blood transfusions after birth.
On May 11, the family finally received the news they had been waiting for: Isaiah could go home.
From Fighting for Survival to Growing Stronger Every Day
According to the medical center’s October update, Isaiah is now healthy, growing well and gaining weight as expected.
His parents are enjoying ordinary family moments they once feared might never happen.
His older brother, Issac, has already developed a special bond with him. Isaiah often turns toward his brother’s voice and calms down when he hears him speaking.
For Tori and her husband, Nick Temple, watching their little boy thrive is a powerful reminder of the medical team’s efforts throughout an extraordinarily difficult pregnancy.
After seven transfusions before birth, additional treatment afterward and three weeks in intensive care, Isaiah’s journey has finally brought him to the place his family wanted him most: home.
