“My Life Feels Like Hell”: 9-Year-Old Boy With Rare Skin Disorder Makes Heartbreaking Plea for Prayers

A nine-year-old boy living with a rare and painful genetic skin condition has shared an emotional message about his struggles, asking people to pray for him as he faces another difficult chapter in his medical journey.
Jamison Stam, from Mead, Washington, was born with Harlequin ichthyosis, an uncommon genetic disorder that causes the skin to become unusually thick and tight. The condition can lead to painful cracks, infections and difficulties regulating body temperature and retaining moisture.
According to a report published in September 2026, Jamison spent much of the summer in the hospital as his health deteriorated. His mother, Alicia, described the period as one of the most frightening experiences the family had faced.
In a video shared publicly, Jamison spoke candidly about the emotional toll of being hospitalized for an extended period. He explained that he was tired of being in the hospital and unhappy with how much of his childhood had been affected by his illness.
His words were particularly difficult for his family to hear. The young boy said that living with constant pain and repeated medical challenges had become overwhelming, ending his message with a simple request for people to pray for him.
His mother reported that, during the most difficult period, Jamison was experiencing severe pain despite receiving medication. He was also battling two bacterial infections, adding to the challenges of managing his underlying condition.
There has since been some encouraging news: the report says Jamison became stable enough to return home. However, his family still faces uncertainty about his future care.
Alicia was preparing to meet with a team of specialists, alongside hospice and palliative-care professionals, to discuss the options available to her son. These discussions are intended to help the family and medical team consider how best to manage his symptoms and support his quality of life.

Harlequin ichthyosis is a lifelong condition that requires intensive care, and its severity can vary from person to person. Jamison’s story highlights not only the physical challenges of living with a rare disorder but also the emotional burden that prolonged illness can place on a child and family.
For now, his family is asking for compassion, encouragement and prayers as they navigate the difficult decisions ahead.
