Missing Virginia Nurse Mamta Bhatt: Husband Gave Conflicting Stories as Investigators Found Blood Evidence, Court Hears

The disappearance of Mamta Kafle Bhatt, a 28-year-old nurse and young mother from Virginia, has taken another disturbing turn as prosecutors present evidence in the trial of her husband, Naresh Bhatt.
Mamta was last seen in July 2024 in Manassas Park, Virginia. Her disappearance prompted a major investigation after she failed to show up for work and family members and colleagues raised concerns about her whereabouts. More than two years later, her body has still not been found.
Naresh Bhatt, a former U.S. Army reservist, is facing charges of murder and defiling a dead body. He has pleaded not guilty, and the allegations against him have not yet been proven in court.
During recent testimony, investigators described how Naresh allegedly gave different explanations about the last time he saw his wife. In one interview, he reportedly said Mamta had been wearing blue medical scrubs. In another, he said they had spent the day at home before offering different accounts of whether he had gone shopping with their young daughter or whether Mamta had briefly left the house.
Defense attorneys argued that the inconsistencies could be explained by a language barrier between Naresh and investigators.
One of the most striking moments in court came when a detective described using Bluestar, a chemical that can reveal potential traces of blood. After investigators applied the substance in the couple’s master bedroom and turned off the lights, the detective testified that “the room lit up.”
Prosecutors have also pointed to reports of blood evidence inside the home as part of their case. However, the presence of possible blood traces alone does not establish what happened to Mamta or prove the charges against her husband.

Friends and former colleagues have previously described concerns about Mamta’s relationship and said she had appeared with bruises before her disappearance. Those accounts have added another layer of concern to a case that has remained unresolved for years.
As the trial continues, the central question remains unanswered: What happened to Mamta Bhatt after she was last seen in July 2024?
Her family and supporters continue to seek answers while the court examines the evidence presented by both sides.
