4-Year-Old Virginia Boy Dies in Dog Attack Just Days After Starting Preschool

A Virginia family is mourning the devastating loss of their four-year-old son, Garcia Welch, who died after being attacked by a dog just days after beginning preschool.

The incident occurred on October 18, 2026, in Louisa, Virginia. According to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received an emergency call at approximately 4:42 p.m. reporting that a dog was attacking a young child.

When officers arrived, they found Garcia seriously injured while the dog continued to attack him. Deputies were forced to shoot and kill the animal to stop the attack.

Emergency medical personnel rushed Garcia to a designated landing area so he could be transported by air to a hospital. Despite their efforts, the little boy was pronounced dead.

The dog was identified by authorities as an American Bully. Officials have not released further details about what led to the attack, and the investigation remains ongoing.

According to a fundraising page created to help his family, Garcia had recently started preschool at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. His family described him as a young boy with so much life ahead of him, with countless milestones and memories he would never get the chance to experience.

Garcia is survived by his mother and older brother. Donations are being collected to help cover funeral expenses and provide financial support to his grieving family.

The tragedy has left the local community heartbroken as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.
