The Pregnant Daughter-in-Law They Betrayed Part 1: Thrown Out in the Rain

The Pregnant Daughter-in-Law They Betrayed

Chapter 1: Thrown Out in the Rain

The night Charlotte Whitmore was thrown out of her husband’s mansion, she was six months pregnant and had nowhere to go.

Rain poured over the grand estate, soaking her silk dress and plastering her hair against her pale face. One hand rested protectively over her swollen belly while the other clutched a small suitcase.

Behind her, the enormous front doors remained open.

Her mother-in-law, Victoria Whitmore, stood beneath the golden chandelier, dressed in an elegant black gown. Her cold eyes held not a trace of sympathy.

“Get out of my house,” Victoria ordered. “I will not allow a woman like you to destroy this family.”

Charlotte stared at her in disbelief. “I haven’t stolen anything. Those diamonds were not in my room until someone put them there!”

Earlier that evening, a priceless diamond necklace had disappeared from Victoria’s private collection. The servants searched the entire mansion, and within an hour, the necklace was supposedly discovered inside Charlotte’s dressing room.

It was almost too convenient.

“Stop lying!” Victoria snapped. “You married my son for his money, and now that you’re carrying his child, you think you can secure a share of the Whitmore fortune.”

Charlotte’s lips trembled.

“I loved Alexander long before I knew how wealthy your family was.”

“Love?” Victoria laughed bitterly. “Women like you always have beautiful excuses for their greed.”

Charlotte turned toward her husband, Alexander, who stood at the foot of the staircase in a tailored navy suit.

“Alexander, please.” Her voice broke. “You know me. You know I would never steal from your family. Say something.”

For a moment, their eyes met.

Charlotte remembered the man who had once promised to protect her from every hardship. The man who had kissed her forehead when they learned they were expecting a baby. The man who had whispered that their child would grow up surrounded by love.

But tonight, Alexander looked at her as though she were a stranger.

“My mother found the necklace in your room,” he said quietly. “How do you expect me to believe you?”

“Because I’m your wife!”

“And yet you’ve brought nothing but trouble into this family.”

The words struck harder than the cold rain.

Charlotte pressed her lips together, fighting back tears. “So you believe her without even investigating?”

Alexander looked away.

Victoria stepped forward, her expression triumphant.

“You have ten minutes to leave. If you refuse, I will have security drag you out.”

Charlotte looked at the man she had loved more than anything. She waited for him to stop his mother, to take her hand, or at least to ask for the truth.

He did none of those things.

Instead, he turned his back and walked upstairs.

Something inside Charlotte broke.

She picked up her suitcase, shielding her belly with her free arm, and walked into the storm.

Behind her, the doors slammed shut.

That night, Charlotte made herself a promise.

One day, they would regret what they had done.

Six months later, the Whitmore family would learn just how expensive their betrayal had been.

Six months passed.

The Whitmore Corporation’s headquarters glittered beneath the lights of the city. Reporters crowded the marble lobby, while investors and business leaders gathered for the announcement of the company’s next successor.

Alexander Whitmore, now the leading candidate to inherit his father’s position as chairman, stood confidently beside his mother.

Victoria wore an exquisite diamond necklace, smiling for the cameras as though the world belonged to her.

“Today marks a new chapter for our family,” she told a reporter. “Alexander has worked tirelessly to earn his place. He deserves to lead this empire.”

She said nothing about the daughter-in-law she had thrown into the rain.

She said nothing about the unborn child who might one day have inherited the Whitmore name.

And she certainly said nothing about the missing diamonds.

Just as the ceremony was about to begin, the grand entrance doors opened.

The room gradually fell silent.

A woman walked inside wearing an elegant ivory suit. Her dark hair fell neatly over her shoulders, and her expression was calm, almost frighteningly composed. Beside her stood a distinguished silver-haired lawyer carrying a leather briefcase.

For several seconds, no one recognized her.

Then Alexander’s champagne glass slipped from his fingers.

“Charlotte?”

She stopped in the center of the ballroom.

The woman who had once stood trembling in the rain was gone. In her place stood someone who no longer needed his approval.

Charlotte was holding a newborn baby in her arms.

Victoria’s face drained of color.

“What are you doing here?” she demanded. “Who allowed you into this building?”

Charlotte smiled faintly.

“I came to attend the announcement of your successor.”

“This is a private family event!”

“Then you should have been more careful about whose family you threw away.”

Whispers spread through the ballroom.

Alexander rushed toward her, his eyes fixed on the baby.

“Charlotte, is that my child?”

She looked at him coldly.

“You lost the right to ask that question when you abandoned us.”

His face tightened. “You can’t just disappear for six months and come back making accusations.”

“I didn’t disappear, Alexander. You made sure I had nowhere to go.”

Victoria interrupted sharply. “Security! Remove her immediately!”

But before anyone could move, the silver-haired lawyer stepped forward.

“Madam Whitmore, I strongly advise you to reconsider that order.”

He opened his briefcase and produced several documents.

“My name is Richard Bennett. I represent Charlotte Whitmore, the rightful beneficiary of a substantial portion of the Whitmore family trust.”

The ballroom erupted in shocked whispers.

Victoria stared at him. “That’s impossible.”

“Is it?” Richard replied calmly. “Perhaps you would like to explain why funds from that very trust were secretly transferred to Blackstone Holdings, a company currently engaged in a hostile campaign against your son’s corporation?”

Alexander went rigid.

Blackstone Holdings was his most dangerous business rival.

“What are you talking about?” he demanded.

Richard placed a thick folder on the table.

“Bank records, authorization documents, and correspondence. The evidence suggests that someone inside this family has been financing your enemy for nearly two years.”

Victoria’s composure finally cracked.

Charlotte looked directly at her mother-in-law.

“You accused me of stealing your diamonds. You threw a pregnant woman into the street and convinced your son to abandon his own child.”

She paused, allowing every word to settle over the silent room.

“But the diamonds were only the beginning, weren’t they?”

Victoria’s fingers tightened around her necklace.

Charlotte noticed.

And for the first time, she smiled.

“Go ahead, Mother. Tell them where the money went.”

Victoria opened her mouth, but no sound came out.

At that moment, the chairman of Whitmore Corporation rose from his seat at the head of the table.

His gaze moved from the documents to his wife, then finally to Charlotte.

“Before we announce my successor,” he declared, “I believe this family has a much more serious matter to settle.”

Charlotte gently adjusted the baby in her arms.

She had returned for justice.

But as she watched Victoria’s terrified expression, she realized the truth was far worse than she had imagined.

The woman who had thrown her out of the mansion hadn’t merely tried to steal her inheritance.

She had been preparing to destroy the entire Whitmore empire.
