Heartbreaking School Video Shows 8-Year-Old Girl’s Final Moments Before Choking Death in Texas

The parents of an 8-year-old Texas girl have released school surveillance footage showing the moments before their daughter’s fatal choking incident, hoping to find answers about whether more could have been done to save her.

Adrian Sue Thompson died on April 16, 2026, after choking during lunch at Velma Penny Elementary School in Lindale, Texas. Her family says the footage has raised troubling questions about how the emergency unfolded.

The video, recorded in the school cafeteria and hallways on April 15, shows Adrian coughing and appearing to struggle as she approaches a staff member for help. She is then directed toward a trash can before moving through the school toward the nurse’s office.

According to reports, school personnel attempted to help Adrian, and the school nurse performed the Heimlich maneuver before beginning CPR when the child collapsed. Emergency responders were called, and Adrian was transported to a hospital in Fort Worth, where she died in the early hours of the following day.

Her mother, Anna Thompson, said the footage differed from what she had expected to see and left the family with unanswered questions. The parents have also raised concerns about details in the emergency response, including the equipment used by medical personnel.

The family is seeking a clearer account of what happened and hopes their efforts may lead to changes that help protect other children. Their concerns come as they continue to grieve the loss of a daughter they described as curious, creative and full of life.

The Texas Rangers investigated the incident. The medical examiner determined that Adrian died from choking and classified the death as accidental. The school district previously said staff members and emergency responders made efforts to save her.

The footage has renewed attention on school emergency procedures and the importance of recognizing choking quickly. However, the video alone does not establish whether a different response would have changed the outcome.

For Adrian’s family, the search for answers continues as they try to understand the final moments of their daughter’s life and ensure that her story may help prevent another family from enduring a similar loss.
