The Last Ring PART 3 — THE LAST RING

The Last Ring

PART 3 — THE LAST RING

Three weeks later, the Moretti divorce hearing began.

Dante arrived at the courthouse surrounded by lawyers and security personnel.

He wore a perfectly tailored black suit, his wedding ring still on his finger.

He had refused to remove it.

When Elena entered, the entire hallway seemed to fall silent.

She wore an elegant ivory dress beneath a cream-colored coat. Her pregnancy was now clearly visible.

Margaret walked beside her, followed by three attorneys.

Dante immediately approached.

“Elena, please. Give me five minutes.”

Her grandmother stepped between them.

“She doesn’t owe you another minute.”

Dante ignored her.

“I’ve dismissed Sophia. I’ve ended every relationship that hurt you. I’ll give you anything you want.”

Elena looked at him.

“Anything?”

“Anything.”

“Then give me my freedom.”

His face fell.

Inside the courtroom, Dante’s lawyer attempted to challenge the separation of assets.

But Elena’s attorneys presented documents proving that her wealth and business interests had been inherited before the marriage.

Then came the evidence against Sophia.

Bank transfers, confidential messages, and recordings showed that Sophia had secretly worked with Lorenzo Vitale to obtain information about Moretti’s shipping operations.

Dante stared at the documents.

He had trusted the wrong woman and betrayed the right one.

But Elena wasn’t finished.

Her attorney placed one final folder before the judge.

It contained evidence that Dante had used Elena’s signature on several financial transactions without her knowledge.

The judge ordered an independent investigation and granted Elena’s request for temporary protection of her separate assets.

Dante sat motionless.

After the hearing, he caught up with her outside.

“Elena!”

She stopped but didn’t turn around immediately.

“I know I can’t undo what happened,” he said. “But there’s a baby coming. Please don’t let my child grow up without knowing me.”

Elena finally faced him.

“Your child will know you if you become someone worthy of knowing.”

Dante’s eyes filled with emotion.

“Can I see the baby when he’s born?”

“We’ll discuss visitation through our attorneys.”

He nodded slowly.

Then his gaze dropped to her left hand.

The wedding ring was gone.

In its place was a simple gold band.

“Is that a new ring?” he asked.

Elena looked down.

“My grandfather gave it to me before he died. He told me never to confuse a beautiful ring with a beautiful marriage.”

Dante swallowed.

“Do you still have mine?”

Elena reached into her handbag and took out a small velvet box.

She placed it in his palm.

“The last ring, Dante. Keep it. I don’t need a reminder of what I survived.”

He stared at the box as if it weighed a thousand pounds.

“Elena, I still love you.”

She gave him one final look.

“Then learn to love someone without destroying her.”

She turned and walked toward her waiting car.

Dante didn’t follow.

For the next several months, his empire began to unravel. Lorenzo’s betrayal forced him to restructure his shipping operations, while the financial investigation exposed years of reckless decisions.

Sophia disappeared from New York after being questioned by investigators.

And Elena?

She gave birth to a healthy baby boy in a private hospital overlooking the ocean.

She named him Alexander Vance.

Margaret held the newborn while Elena rested against her pillows.

“He’s beautiful,” her grandmother whispered.

Elena smiled.

For the first time in months, her happiness felt real.

Several days later, a package arrived.

Inside was a handwritten letter from Dante.

Elena,

I won’t ask you to come back. I won’t ask you to forgive me.

I only want you to know that I understand what I destroyed.

I hope our son grows up knowing the kind of woman his mother is.

Dante.

Elena read the letter twice before folding it carefully.

She placed it inside a drawer.

Then she looked down at Alexander sleeping peacefully in her arms.

Her old wedding ring was gone.

Her marriage was over.

But her life was finally beginning.

The woman who once walked away with nothing had discovered that she had never needed Dante Moretti to be powerful.

She had always been powerful on her own.
