The Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities announced on December 11 that archaeologists had recently discovered and excavated a rare bust of the famous ancient King Ramses II near the city of Giza, south of the capital Cairo.

The reason it is considered rare is because this is the first pink granite statue depicting the portrait of this famous king to be found.

In addition, the statue is also inlaid with the “Ka” symbol, which was carved on statues of people or gods in ancient Egypt to represent their immortal spirit even after their death.

According to the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, the excavation work has been carried out since last week at a private land in Mit Rahina, near the ancient city of Memphis, 30km south of Cairo. The statue found is 105cm high and 55cm wide.

Ramses II is the third Pharaoh of the 19th Dynasty in Egyptian history. He is one of the greatest, most powerful and most celebrated pharaohs in the country’s history.
