The remote Lake Chelan-area communities of Lucerne, Holden, and Stehekin are facing severe and widespread damage after the Stehekin River surged beyond its banks, unleashing destructive floodwaters that wiped out critical infrastructure and severed all access routes. Roads have been washed away, docks and bridges damaged or destroyed, and power and communication systems disrupted, leaving residents isolated in one of Washington’s most inaccessible regions. Emergency crews are struggling to reach the area as waterlogged terrain and debris continue to block transportation by land and water. For these тιԍнт-knit mountain communities, the flood is more than a natural disaster—it is a sudden rupture of daily life, testing resilience, emergency response, and the fragile connection between people and the rugged wilderness they call home.
