A 21-year-old college student from Connecticut has died following a sudden medical emergency, leaving her family, friends and classmates devastated just weeks before she was expected to graduate.
Jordan Elisabeth Chymbor, from Cheshire, Connecticut, died on October 17, 2026, while completing her final semester at the University of South Carolina. She was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and had been on track to graduate in December.
Her family shared the heartbreaking news through an online fundraiser, explaining that Jordan experienced a sudden medical emergency that turned tragic. They said they were still waiting for answers about what happened.
“ We are still awaiting answers, and our family is heartbroken by this unexpected and devastating loss,” her relatives wrote.
No specific cause of death has been publicly confirmed in the reports available.
A promising future in healthcare
Jordan was a 2023 graduate of Cheshire High School, where she played softball and built lasting friendships with her teammates.
At the University of South Carolina, she maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA while studying neuroscience. She hoped to become a physician assistant and had a particular interest in understanding the connections between the brain and digestive system.
According to her obituary, she wanted to use that knowledge to help people struggling with eating disorders.
Her family and friends remembered her not only for her academic achievements but also for her warmth, generosity and enthusiasm for life. She was described as someone who brought happiness to those around her and always made time for the people she loved.
Jordan also enjoyed baking, decorating, concerts, beach trips and University of South Carolina football games. At family gatherings, she was known for giving heartfelt toasts that made special occasions even more memorable.
Tributes pour in from her hometown
News of Jordan’s death prompted emotional tributes from the Cheshire High School softball community and Anthony’s Pizzeria and Deli, where she had previously worked.
Her former softball team said it was heartbroken by the loss of a former player and teammate. The restaurant also remembered her as someone who had become part of its family.
Her relatives established a fundraiser to help cover unexpected medical, travel and funeral expenses. Donations quickly came in from people touched by her story.
Jordan is survived by her parents, her two brothers, her boyfriend and other extended family members.

Her death has left loved ones mourning a young woman whose ambitions, academic accomplishments and plans to help others were cut short. She was only weeks away from completing her degree and beginning the next stage of her life.
