The Secret He Never Knew PART 3 – The Truth Behind His Betrayal

The Secret He Never Knew

PART 3 – The Truth Behind His Betrayal

Dante didn’t leave Maine immediately.

For two days, he stayed at a luxury hotel nearby, hoping I would change my mind.

He sent flowers.

I returned them.

He sent expensive baby gifts.

I refused delivery.

Then, on the third morning, Emily called me.

“Lena, have you seen the news?”

I frowned.

“What news?”

She sent me a link.

The headline made my stomach tighten.

MORETTI BILLIONAIRE’S ASSISTANT ACCUSED OF FINANCIAL FRAUD.

I opened the article.

According to the report, Sofia Vale had allegedly transferred millions of dollars from several Moretti companies into accounts connected to a private investment firm.

The investigation had begun two weeks earlier.

But what shocked me most was the photograph beneath the headline.

It showed Sofia entering Dante’s private office late at night.

I immediately remembered the anniversary dinner.

The kiss.

The way Dante had defended her.

Something suddenly felt wrong.

That afternoon, Dante appeared at my doorstep again.

This time, I didn’t immediately close the door.

He looked exhausted.

His expensive suit was wrinkled, and dark circles had appeared beneath his eyes.

“I need to explain something.”

I crossed my arms.

“Make it quick.”

He took a deep breath.

“Sofia wasn’t just my assistant.”

I stared at him.

“What does that mean?”

“She had been manipulating company records for months. She used her position to access confidential accounts and arrange unauthorized transfers.”

“And?”

He hesitated.

“She told me she loved me. I believed her.”

I gave him a cold smile.

“So you cheated on your wife because your assistant said she loved you?”

He looked ashamed.

“I know how it sounds.”

“No, Dante. You don’t.”

He lowered his voice.

“There’s something else. Sofia knew about your pregnancy.”

My heart stopped.

“What?”

“She accessed a medical insurance notification connected to your account. She knew you had visited a clinic shortly before you disappeared.”

I felt a chill run down my spine.

“She knew?”

“She suspected you were pregnant. She told me you were trying to trap me into staying married.”

I stared at him in disbelief.

“And you believed her?”

He didn’t answer.

That silence told me everything.

I had been carrying his children while another woman was spreading lies about me.

And he had chosen to believe her.

I stepped away from the door.

“You need to leave.”

“Lena, please. I’m trying to fix this.”

“You should have tried fixing our marriage before you destroyed it.”

He looked down at my stomach.

“Can I at least know their names when they’re born?”

I swallowed hard.

“You can ask again when the time comes.”

He nodded slowly.

Then he reached into his jacket and handed me an envelope.

“These are the results of the company’s internal investigation. I thought you should know the truth.”

I took it reluctantly.

Inside were financial records, emails, and copies of messages between Sofia and several executives.

One message caught my attention.

Sofia: Once Lena is gone, Dante will finally be free. The company will be mine to control.

Another message made my hands tremble.

Sofia: Make sure he doesn’t discover the transfers until everything is completed.

I looked up at Dante.

“She planned this?”

He nodded.

“Yes. And I was too blind to see it.”

I returned the documents to the envelope.

“That explains Sofia. It doesn’t excuse you.”

“I know.”

For several seconds, neither of us spoke.

Then Dante did something I never expected.

He stepped backward.

“I won’t force you to come home, Lena. I’ll respect your decision.”

I watched him walk toward his car.

But before he opened the door, he turned around.

“One thing. Can I come back next month to check on the babies?”

I looked down at my stomach.

“They aren’t born yet, Dante. And I need time.”

“I understand.”

He finally drove away.

That evening, I sat in the nursery, surrounded by tiny white blankets and two empty cribs.

I placed my hands over my stomach.

“Your father knows about you now,” I whispered.

One of the babies kicked gently.

I smiled through my tears.

But my phone suddenly rang.

It was an unknown number.

I answered cautiously.

“Hello?”

A woman’s voice came through.

“Lena Moretti?”

“Who is this?”

“My name is Rebecca. I’m Dante’s mother.”

I sat up straighter.

“What do you want?”

Her voice sounded unusually gentle.

“I know about the twins. And I know what my son did to you.”

I remained silent.

Then she said something that made my heart pound.

“There’s something Dante hasn’t told you about Sofia. Something that happened before your anniversary.”

“What?”

Rebecca took a shaky breath.

“Sofia wasn’t simply trying to steal your husband. She had been planning to take your place in the Moretti family for much longer than you realize.”

I tightened my grip on the phone.

“What are you saying?”

Her answer left me speechless.

“She had been secretly claiming that she was pregnant with Dante’s child.”

And suddenly, I realized that the story I thought I understood was only beginning.
