Amazon Driver Shot in the Head, Dragged Into Ditch by Stranger in Terrifying Roadside Attack — Killer Sentenced to 40 Years

A 23-year-old Amazon delivery driver was carrying out an ordinary delivery when a stranger allegedly opened fire on her vehicle, dragged her from the wreckage and left her in a roadside ditch. More than a year after the brutal attack, the man responsible has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Jasmine Taylor was working in Lawrence County, Missouri, on February 5, 2025, when she drove along County Road 2152 near the town of Wentworth. She was approaching a driveway when Thomas Coy, 65, reportedly shot at her delivery vehicle with a pellet rifle.
The vehicle crashed into a fence, leaving Taylor slumped behind the wheel. According to investigators, Coy approached the truck, pulled her out and dragged her along the road before leaving her in a ditch. She was still alive and breathing when he left her there.
Emergency responders took Taylor to hospital. Initially, authorities did not realize she had suffered a gunshot wound. Doctors later discovered a projectile lodged in her head and alerted law enforcement.
Despite medical treatment, Taylor died on February 9, four days after the shooting.
Investigators said footage from Amazon’s delivery vehicle showed Taylor slumped in the driver’s seat as the truck approached a driveway. During the investigation, Coy admitted shooting her with a pellet rifle and removing her from the vehicle.
The two reportedly did not know each other. Neighbors later told local media that Coy had frequently complained about delivery vehicles speeding along the rural road. However, authorities have not publicly established that this was the motive for the killing.
Coy pleaded guilty in September 2026 to second-degree murder and armed criminal action. On November 2, a judge sentenced him to consecutive prison terms of 30 years for murder and 10 years for armed criminal action, giving him a total sentence of 40 years.
Lawrence County Sheriff Chris Berry previously described the killing as senseless, expressing how difficult it was to understand why someone would become so angry that they would commit such an act.

Taylor’s death has left her family and community grieving a young woman whose life was cut short while she was simply doing her job. The sentencing has brought the criminal case to a major milestone, but it cannot undo the loss suffered by those who loved her.
