Strangers Turn a Young DJ’s First Festival Into an Unforgettable Experience

When 23-year-old Adam James arrived at a major music festival alone, his family worried that the experience might become overwhelming. Instead, a chance encounter with a group of strangers turned his first festival into a life-changing experience.

Adam, from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, travelled alone to Boomtown Festival in Hampshire. It was his first time attending a festival, and his father had even prepared an emergency plan in case Adam wanted to return home early.

A Simple Act of Kindness

Everything changed shortly after Adam began setting up his tent.

A group of friends from Bristol were building their own campsite nearby when they needed a mallet. Adam offered to lend them his. The group noticed that he was alone, had a very small tent and was attending his first festival.

Rather than leaving him on his own, they invited Adam to join their group. They moved his tent into their camping area and spent the rest of the five-day festival together.

Adam later said that he had not been very confident before meeting them, but quickly felt comfortable after being welcomed into the group.

“I Think I’ve Found My People”

Adam’s father had been expecting a difficult phone call. Instead, he received a message from his son saying that he thought he had found his people.

After the festival, Adam’s father shared a message online thanking the Bristol group for their kindness. The post attracted widespread attention and was shared thousands of times.

The story also led to Adam being reunited with the friends he met at the festival.

A New Opportunity for His Music

Adam, who performs as Adzo, is an aspiring drum and bass DJ. The attention surrounding his festival experience unexpectedly helped open new opportunities for his music.

He was invited to perform at venues in Bristol and has also been booked for upcoming music events. He is scheduled to perform at a dance music event in Bristol on October 17 and has been invited to DJ at next year’s Boomtown Festival.

For Adam, what began as a nervous trip to his first festival has developed into new friendships, new performances and opportunities to pursue his passion for music.

One Small Gesture Made a Big Difference

The friends could easily have ignored the young man camping alone beside them. Instead, they invited him into their group and made sure he was included.

What started with something as simple as lending a mallet eventually became a story shared far beyond the festival itself — and opened a new chapter in Adam’s journey as a DJ.
