THE WOMAN HE COULD NEVER FORGET – Part 1 — The Girl He Never Looked At

THE WOMAN HE COULD NEVER FORGET

Chapter 1 — The Girl He Never Looked At

Eight years ago, at Westbridge University, Lena Hart was the girl everyone remembered for the wrong reasons.

She was cheerful, intelligent, and always willing to help others. But she was also overweight, and cruel jokes followed her everywhere.

Lena never let them break her.

There was only one person whose opinion secretly mattered to her.

Adrian Cole.

He was the most admired student on campus—the heir to a powerful business family, captain of the debate society, and the man every girl wanted to know.

Lena had loved him quietly for almost two years.

She never expected him to love her back.

One rainy afternoon, she finally gathered enough courage to confess.

She found Adrian outside the library.

“Adrian,” she said nervously, holding out a small envelope. “There’s something I want to tell you.”

He looked at her.

“I like you.”

For a moment, there was silence.

Then Adrian lowered his eyes.

“Lena, you’re a good person.”

Her heart sank.

“But?”

“I don’t want to give you the wrong idea.”

She forced a smile.

“Because you don’t like me?”

Adrian hesitated.

“I’m sorry.”

The answer was painful enough.

But then he added words she would remember for years.

“You should find someone who appreciates you for who you are. I just… don’t see you that way.”

Lena nodded.

She walked away before he could see her tears.

That night, she stood in front of her mirror for a long time.

For the first time, she wondered if perhaps everyone was right.

Maybe being kind wasn’t enough.

Maybe being smart wasn’t enough.

Maybe she simply wasn’t beautiful enough to be loved.

But Lena made one promise to herself.

She would never beg anyone to choose her again.

The next morning, she left Westbridge for a new city.

And she disappeared from Adrian’s life.

Eight years later, Adrian Cole had become exactly what everyone expected.

CEO.

Billionaire.

The youngest chairman of Cole International.

He had everything—money, power, success.

Except peace.

Then one Monday morning, his assistant placed a file on his desk.

“We’ve finalized the acquisition meeting with Hart & Co.”

Adrian barely looked up.

“Who’s representing them?”

“Lena Hart.”

His hand stopped.

The name felt strangely familiar.

But before he could ask anything else, the conference-room doors opened.

A woman walked in wearing a perfectly tailored black suit.

Her hair fell neatly over one shoulder. Her expression was calm and confident.

She looked nothing like the shy girl he remembered.

Adrian stared.

She extended her hand.

“Mr. Cole.”

Their eyes met.

“I’m Lena Hart.”

For the first time in years, Adrian forgot what he was about to say.

Because the woman standing before him was the girl he had once rejected.

But somehow…

He couldn’t look away.

And Lena?

She simply smiled.

As if they had never met before.
