28-Year-Old Man Dies After North Albury Stabbing as Homicide Investigation Begins

A 28-year-old man has died in hospital a week after he was found with a stab wound to his neck in North Albury, New South Wales, prompting police to launch a homicide investigation.

Emergency Services Called to North Albury Home

Emergency services were called to Calimo Street in North Albury at about 1am on September 27 after reports that a man had been seriously injured.

Police officers from the Murray River Police District arrived and found the 28-year-old suffering from a stab wound to his neck.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Man Dies After a Week in Hospital

The man remained in hospital for about a week as medical teams treated his injuries.

Police were informed on October 4 that he had died from his injuries.

His death changed the nature of the investigation, with detectives now treating the case as a homicide. Police said the victim’s family had been left devastated by the death.

Strike Force Metron Established

Detectives from the Murray River Police District established Strike Force Metron to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.

The State Crime Command Homicide Squad is now assisting local detectives with the investigation.

Police are examining what happened at the Calimo Street property and are working to establish the circumstances that led to the man’s injuries.

Police Still Searching for Answers

Investigators have not yet determined what type of weapon was used or established a possible motive for the attack.

Police Commander Paul Smith said investigators believed other people may have been present or may have information about what happened.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who was in or around Calimo Street on the night of September 27, as well as people who may have been in the area during the following days, to come forward.

Public Asked to Check CCTV and Dashcam Footage

Police are particularly interested in information that could help establish the movements of people or vehicles around the area at the time of the incident.

Residents and motorists who may have captured relevant CCTV, mobile phone footage or dashcam recordings have been urged to contact investigators.

A report will also be prepared for the NSW Coroner as the investigation continues.
