Alabama Mother Charged With Murder After 2-Year-Old Daughter Is Found Bound and Dead

LANETT, ALABAMA — An Alabama mother has been charged with murder following the death of her 2-year-old daughter, who authorities say was found bound and lying face-down on a bed for more than 12 hours.
Sierra Shay Hadaway, 22, was charged after investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the death of her daughter, Madilynn Hadaway, in Lanett, Alabama. According to reports citing the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, the child was found on June 12, 2026.
Investigators said the toddler’s arms, legs and ankles had allegedly been bound and that she had been left face-down on a bed for an extended period. Authorities believe she died from asphyxiation.
The sheriff’s office announced the arrest after the investigation was completed in July. Hadaway was being held at the Chambers County Detention Facility without bond, according to reports published at the time.

Second Suspect Dies Two Days Later
The case took another turn when a second suspect, identified as Christian Myles Sturkie, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on June 14, two days after the toddler was found.
Authorities have not publicly clarified Sturkie’s relationship to the child. The available reports do not establish further details about his alleged role in the case.
Family Remembers a Young Life
Madilynn’s obituary remembered her as a joyful little girl whose smile and personality brought happiness to those around her. She reportedly enjoyed playing with dolls and spending time outdoors.
Her death has drawn attention to the vulnerability of young children and the importance of protecting them from abuse and neglect.
Hadaway’s murder charge represents an allegation, not a conviction. The case must proceed through the legal system, where the evidence will be examined.
