Colorado Dentist James Craig: The Poisoning Case That Ended in a Life Sentence

A Colorado dentist who once presented himself as a devoted husband and father became the focus of a murder investigation after his wife, Angela Craig, died following a series of unexplained medical emergencies in March 2023.

Angela, 43, was the mother of the couple’s six children. Before her death, she had repeatedly sought medical treatment for symptoms including dizziness, headaches and weakness. Doctors initially struggled to determine what was making her so ill.

Investigators later alleged that James Craig had poisoned his wife by putting dangerous substances in her protein shakes. According to court documents, investigators uncovered internet searches about poisons, purchases of toxic chemicals and messages that raised further questions about his actions while Angela was hospitalized.

One detail that drew particular attention was a package containing potassium cyanide delivered to Craig’s dental practice shortly before Angela’s final hospitalization. A colleague reportedly alerted medical staff after learning about the package and becoming concerned that Angela’s symptoms could be linked to poisoning.

Angela died on March 18, 2023. The coroner later determined that cyanide and tetrahydrozoline poisoning caused her death, with arsenic poisoning also listed as a significant condition.

James Craig was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Prosecutors argued that he had deliberately poisoned his wife, while the defense challenged the evidence and disputed the prosecution’s account.

The case continued to develop over the following two years. In July 2025, a jury found Craig guilty of murdering Angela. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison.

The case shocked many people because it involved a family raising six children and a medical professional accused of using his knowledge in a deadly way. For Angela’s loved ones, the legal outcome marked a major development in a case that began with a series of baffling medical emergencies.
