Dashcam Footage Could Hold the Key in Case of Two Teen Girls Killed in New Jersey, Attorney Says

A shocking case involving the deaths of two teenage best friends in New Jersey has taken a significant turn after investigators reportedly examined dashcam footage that could help establish what happened in the moments before the fatal collision.

Vincent Battiloro, now 18, has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas, both 17. The girls were riding together on an electric bicycle in Cranford, New Jersey, on September 29, 2025, when they were allegedly struck by a Jeep Compass.

According to court records cited by Fox News, Battiloro was allegedly driving as fast as 70 mph in a residential area with a posted speed limit of 25 mph. The girls were reportedly hit from behind, and both later died from their injuries.

What has drawn particular attention is footage from the vehicle’s own dashcam. Investigators allege that the recording shows Battiloro making a U-turn and following the girls before accelerating toward them. The footage could become important evidence as prosecutors attempt to establish whether the collision was intentional.

Brent Bramnick, an attorney representing Maria Niotis’ family, told Fox News Digital that the recording may help prosecutors demonstrate the driver’s intent. He emphasized that proving murder requires more than showing that someone was driving recklessly. Prosecutors must establish the necessary intent under the law.

The case has also raised troubling questions about events before the fatal collision. According to previous reporting, the suspect was accused of stalking one of the girls, and the family’s attorney alleged that the victim’s home had been targeted in two swatting incidents in the weeks before the deaths. These allegations have added another layer of concern for the families seeking answers.

Following the crash, Battiloro reportedly told authorities that he had been carjacked. Police initially questioned him and released him while the investigation continued. After investigators reviewed the dashcam footage, he was arrested in June 2026 and charged as an adult.

In October, a Union County grand jury returned an indictment charging him with two counts of first-degree murder. The indictment marks a major development in the case, although the allegations must still be addressed through the court process.

For the families of Maria and Isabella, the legal proceedings represent an opportunity to seek answers about the loss of two young lives. Both girls were best friends whose futures were cut short in a tragedy that has deeply affected their loved ones and community.

The dashcam footage may prove central to the prosecution’s case, but its significance will ultimately be assessed through the legal process. The key question is whether the evidence can establish that the deaths were deliberate rather than the result of reckless driving.

As the case moves forward, the families continue to seek accountability and a clearer understanding of the events that led to the deaths of the two teenagers.
