David Miller Scores Career-Best 142 While Honoring His Mother
Johannesburg, South Africa — September 29, 2026
David Miller produced the highest ODI score of his career on a deeply personal day, scoring 142 runs while wearing his mother’s name on the back of his shirt during South Africa’s Pink Day match against Australia.
The 37-year-old left-hander helped South Africa defeat Australia by 32 runs at the Wanderers Stadium on September 27. His performance also came on a day dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer, making the occasion especially meaningful for his family.
His Mother’s Name Was on His Shirt
Instead of his own name, Miller wore “Jenny” on his pink South Africa shirt. Jenny is his mother and a breast cancer survivor.
South Africa’s players wore special shirts carrying the names of breast cancer fighters and survivors as part of the annual Pink Day fixture.
For Miller, seeing his mother’s name on his back added a personal meaning to an already important match.

A Career-Best Performance
Miller scored 142 runs from just 93 balls, hitting 12 fours and nine sixes. It was his eighth ODI century and the highest score of his one-day international career.
He shared a 156-run partnership with South African captain Temba Bavuma, who also scored a century. Their performances helped South Africa reach 365 for nine from 50 overs.
Australia made a strong start to its chase, with Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head both scoring 84. However, South Africa’s bowlers eventually dismissed Australia for 333, securing a 32-run victory.
An Emotional Moment After the Match
After reaching his century, Miller pointed toward his mother in the stands and blew her a kiss.
After the match, Miller said the occasion had been particularly emotional for his family. His mother had watched from the stands as he produced the best ODI innings of his career and was named Player of the Match.
For Miller, the score was more than a personal record. It became a memorable sporting moment shared with his mother on a day created to honor people affected by breast cancer.
