Elizabeth Holmes’ Prison Sentence: New Details Reveal Her Expected Release Date
Elizabeth Holmes’ Prison Sentence Reduced: When Will the Theranos Founder Be Released?

Elizabeth Holmes, the former CEO of blood-testing company Theranos, is back in the spotlight as new details emerge about her prison sentence and expected release date.
Holmes was sentenced to 11 years and three months in federal prison in November 2022 after being convicted of defrauding investors through false claims about Theranos’ blood-testing technology. The company once attracted billions of dollars in investment by promising that its devices could perform numerous medical tests using only a small amount of blood.
However, investigations revealed serious problems with the technology, raising concerns about the accuracy of its tests and the company’s claims. Holmes was convicted in January 2022 of three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud involving investors. She was not convicted on the patient-related fraud charges.

Holmes began serving her sentence in May 2023 at a minimum-security federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas. Her sentence was later reduced, and she is now expected to move to a halfway house in August 2027 while remaining under federal custody.
According to a report published by PEOPLE on October 17, 2026, her projected release date is February 2030. The halfway-house placement would allow her to work and receive visitors under supervision, but it would not mean that her sentence had ended.
During her time in prison, Holmes has worked in roles assisting other inmates with legal matters and preparing for their return to society. Her case continues to attract public attention because of the dramatic rise and collapse of Theranos, once valued at billions of dollars.
Although Holmes’ move to a halfway house is still in the future, the development offers a clearer picture of the remaining stages of her sentence.
