Father of Two Students Identified as the Man Who Stopped Oregon Elementary School Shooter

A father whose two daughters attend an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, has been identified as the man who intervened during a deadly school shooting, confronting the teenage gunman and stopping the attack.
According to PEOPLE, the man, identified by his family as Kaylub Giamanco, was driving home during his lunch break on October 15, 2026, when he heard gunfire and saw the armed suspect entering Silver Rail Elementary School.
Giamanco reportedly went into the building and shot the 16-year-old suspect, who was later pronounced dead. His intervention came during an attack that killed three children and a teacher, while another student and a teacher were critically injured.

The incident unfolded within minutes, leaving families and the wider community struggling to understand how such violence could occur at an elementary school. Authorities are continuing to investigate the shooting, including the events leading up to the attack and how the teenager obtained the firearm.
Giamanco’s mother, Kenda Freeman, spoke publicly about her son’s involvement in a statement shared with reporters. She said he was not seeking recognition and wanted instead to express gratitude to first responders, school staff and community members who had offered support.
The fact that Giamanco is the father of two students at the school has added a deeply personal dimension to the story. He was not simply a passerby responding to an emergency; his own family was connected to the school community affected by the tragedy.
Officials and residents have expressed grief for the victims and concern for those recovering from their injuries. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not yet established a definitive motive for the attack.
