From Farming in the Mountains to the UFC: The Journey of Su Mudaerji
Su Mudaerji never expected to become a professional fighter competing on one of the world’s biggest mixed martial arts stages. Growing up in Sichuan, China, he spent much of his childhood helping his family grow potatoes, corn and watermelons in the mountains.
A Dream That Once Seemed Impossible
Before entering professional fighting, Mudaerji had a very different life. He grew up in a farming family and later worked as a shepherd in the mountains.
He eventually began training in combat sports. At first, even appearing on television as a fighter seemed like an ambitious dream. Step by step, however, he progressed from regional competitions to professional MMA and eventually earned a place in the UFC.
The Tibetan Eagle
Known by the nickname “The Tibetan Eagle,” Mudaerji became the first Tibetan fighter to compete in the UFC.
His rise has made him a notable figure for young people interested in mixed martial arts. Reuters reported that his journey from a farming background to the international stage has helped inspire Tibetan youth who see new possibilities through sport.

A Major Victory in Shanghai
In August 2026, Mudaerji defeated Alex Perez by unanimous decision at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center.
The victory moved him to 11th in the UFC flyweight rankings. The fight was also held in front of the UFC’s biggest crowd in Asia at the time, giving Mudaerji an important moment in his career.
Looking Toward a Championship
Now 30 years old, Mudaerji is aiming even higher. He has said that he hopes to win a UFC championship within the next three years.
His story is a reminder that professional success can begin far away from the world’s biggest arenas. For Mudaerji, the journey started in the mountains, continued through years of training and eventually led to the UFC.
