A new biography about Tom Brady offers an account of how his marriage to supermodel Gisele Bündchen deteriorated before the couple divorced in 2022.

In Lars Anderson’s upcoming book, Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness, a source close to the former NFL quarterback claims that Bündchen was the one who ultimately ended their relationship after more than a decade together.

According to an excerpt published by the Daily Mail, Bündchen, who has an interest in astrology, reportedly told Brady three words that summed up her view of their relationship: “We’re not compatible.”

The book claims Bündchen had wanted Brady to retire from football as early as 2017, and that his decision to continue playing placed additional strain on their marriage.

After Brady and the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl in 2019, Bündchen reportedly asked whether it would be the right time for him to retire.

Brady allegedly responded that he was enjoying his career too much to walk away.

Anderson’s book also describes the challenges Bündchen faced while raising the couple’s children as Brady remained heavily focused on football.

According to the author, Bündchen wanted Brady to be more present when he was at home, rather than continuing to think about games or remain distracted by his phone. She also wanted more help caring for their children, more opportunities to rest and more time to focus on her own career.

A friend of Brady’s reportedly described how his demanding lifestyle may have affected the marriage. His early-morning training schedule, strict diet, frequent focus on football and limited ability to participate in ordinary social activities were described as potentially difficult for Bündchen.

Brady spent nearly two decades with the Patriots before signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. He initially announced his retirement in 2023 after playing in Tampa Bay, following his long career in the NFL.

Brady and Bündchen share two children, Vivian and Benjamin. Brady also has a son, Jack, from his previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan.
