HER HUSBAND ANNOUNCED THEIR DIVORCE AT HIS BIRTHDAY PARTY—THEN SHE REVEALED THE RANCH WAS NEVER HIS

PART 1 — THE BIRTHDAY BETRAYAL

“After fifteen years of marriage, I’m finally getting rid of the woman who has been holding me back.”

The entire ballroom fell silent.

Forty-year-old ranch owner Richard Bennett stood beneath a glittering chandelier, holding a glass of champagne as nearly 150 guests stared in disbelief.

Beside the birthday cake stood his wife, Catherine, 38, wearing the same simple blue dress she’d worn to their tenth anniversary.

Richard smiled cruelly.

“Catherine, consider this my birthday gift to myself. I want a divorce.”

A few guests gasped.

Catherine’s fingers tightened around her glass.

“Richard… what are you saying?”

“I’m saying I’m tired of pretending to love you.”

He turned toward a beautiful 26-year-old blonde standing near the fireplace.

“Everyone, meet Vanessa. The woman I’m going to marry.”

Vanessa walked forward and slipped her arm around Richard’s waist.

Then Richard delivered the final humiliation.

“And Catherine, don’t bother asking for the ranch. You came into this marriage with nothing, and you’ll leave with nothing.”

Catherine looked around the grand dining hall.

The ranch she’d helped build.

The home where she’d spent fifteen years working through droughts, financial troubles, and countless sleepless nights.

Richard leaned closer.

“I want you out of my house by Monday.”

For several seconds, Catherine said nothing.

Then, unexpectedly, she smiled.

“Your house?” she asked softly.

Richard laughed. “That’s right. My house. My land. My money.”

Catherine slowly opened her handbag.

She removed a thick brown envelope and placed it beside his birthday cake.

“Richard,” she said calmly, “before you throw me out, there’s something you should know.”

He rolled his eyes.

“What now?”

Catherine opened the envelope and slid a document across the table.

“The Bennett Ranch was purchased twenty-three years ago with money my grandfather left me. It has remained in my family’s trust ever since.”

Richard’s smile disappeared.

“And you,” Catherine continued, “have never owned a single acre.”

A stunned whisper spread through the ballroom.

Vanessa immediately released Richard’s arm.

But Catherine wasn’t finished.

She pulled out a second document.

“And there’s something else, Richard. Last month, you borrowed $2.4 million using this ranch as collateral.”

Richard’s face turned white.

“How… how do you know about that?”

Catherine looked directly into his eyes.

“Because the bank called the actual owner.”

At that moment, the ballroom doors opened.

A silver-haired attorney entered carrying a leather briefcase.

Catherine turned toward him.

“Mr. Harrison, please tell my husband what happens when someone mortgages property he doesn’t legally own.”

The attorney looked at Richard.

“Mr. Bennett, before we discuss that, I need to ask you one question.”

He opened his briefcase.

“Who forged your wife’s signature on these documents?”

Richard dropped his champagne glass.

And Vanessa suddenly started backing toward the exit.

But Catherine had one more secret—one that would change everything before midnight.
