Man Arrested After 22-Year-Old Is Fatally Shot in Springfield, Missouri
SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI — September 21, 2026

A suspect has been arrested after a 22-year-old man was fatally shot early Sunday morning at a residence in Springfield, Missouri, police said.

The victim was identified as Cody Martinez, who died at the scene. The suspect’s name has not been released.

Police Respond to Early-Morning Shooting
Springfield police officers were called to the 200 block of East Montclair Street at approximately 2:20 a.m. on September 20 following reports of a shooting.

Officers found Martinez suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Martinez and the suspect knew each other before the shooting.

Suspect Arrested Hours Later
Investigators identified a suspect in the case and notified the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

A trooper later located and arrested the suspect in Ozark County, roughly seven hours after Martinez was found dead. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or announced formal charges.

Investigation Continues
Detectives are continuing to investigate what led to the shooting and the circumstances surrounding Martinez’s death.

The case is Springfield’s ninth homicide investigation of 2026, according to police.

The suspect is accused in connection with the shooting and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
