Man Arrested Hours After Wife Was Fatally Stabbed in South Africa

A 50-year-old man has been arrested in South Africa after his wife was allegedly fatally stabbed at their home in Platinum Village, Phokeng, police said.

The incident was reported to police on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at approximately 1 p.m. The woman was allegedly attacked at the couple’s marital home, where she sustained fatal stab wounds.

Following the incident, the suspect reportedly fled the scene, prompting police to launch a manhunt in an effort to locate him.

Police receive information about suspect’s whereabouts

About 10 hours after the incident, at approximately 11 p.m., police received information that the suspect was allegedly hiding at Plastic View informal settlement in Zinniaville.

Members of the Phokeng Crime Prevention Unit followed up on the information and travelled to the area to search for the suspect.

The operation resulted in the man’s arrest. Police also recovered what they described as the murder weapon.

Suspect appears in court

The suspect appeared before the Tlhabane Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, October 1, where he faced a charge of murder.

The court ordered that he remain in custody. He is scheduled to appear again on October 12.

South African Police Service officials said the arrest followed information received from the community and an intelligence-driven response by officers involved in the investigation.

Investigation continues

Police have not publicly provided further details about what allegedly led to the fatal stabbing or the circumstances surrounding the couple’s relationship before the incident.

As the case proceeds through the courts, the allegations against the accused remain matters for the judicial process. The suspect has been charged with murder, and the court will determine the case based on the evidence presented.

The South African Police Service credited the rapid flow of information and the cooperation of a community member with helping investigators locate the suspect within hours of the killing.
