Man Charged After 31-Year-Old Found Shot Dead on Georgia Road

A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder after a 31-year-old man was found shot dead on a road in northern Georgia, authorities said.

Deputies from the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office were called to Sutton Lane on Tuesday after receiving a report about a person lying in the roadway. When officers arrived, they found Matthew Scott Webb, 31, of Clayton, unresponsive.

Webb had suffered at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

Suspect Detained at the Scene

Investigators detained Casey Ramey, 34, who was also from Clayton, at the location where Webb was found.

Following an investigation, Ramey was charged with murder and aggravated assault. Authorities said the two men knew each other.

Agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation also went to the scene to process evidence and assist local investigators.

Investigation Continues

An autopsy is scheduled at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office as investigators continue working to establish the circumstances surrounding Webb’s death.

The case remains active. Once the investigation is completed, authorities are expected to present the case to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

The charges against Ramey are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
