Man Dies After Hitting Goalpost While Being Towed by Quad Bike in Regional NSW

A man in his 20s has died after hitting a goalpost while being towed by a quad bike at a recreation reserve in regional New South Wales.

Emergency services were called to the reserve on Osborne Yerong Creek Road in Osborne, about 70 kilometres west of Wagga Wagga, shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Police said the man suffered serious injuries after being towed by the quad bike and striking a goalpost on the football oval. Bystanders provided first aid before emergency services arrived, but he died at the scene. His identity has not yet been formally confirmed.

Driver Arrested After Fatal Incident
Police arrested the 20-year-old man who was driving the quad bike following the incident.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station for mandatory testing and was subsequently charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, driving in a dangerous manner and negligent driving occasioning death.

The driver was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court on September 23.

Small Community Left in Shock
The incident has shocked the small rural community of Osborne, which has fewer than 30 residents.

Lockhart Shire Council Mayor Peter Sharp said the two men involved were members of the local football club, which plays an important role in bringing the community together.

He said the incident would have a significant impact on the close-knit farming community.

The council is working with the Murrumbidgee Health District to arrange counselling for residents who may need support following the tragedy.

Investigation Continues
Police have not released the identity of the deceased man while formal identification remains pending.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated, while the driver will face court later this week.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
