Minnesota Man Charged in 1995 Iowa Murder After More Than 30 Years of Mystery

After 31 Years, Minnesota Man Charged in 1995 Murder of Iowa Woman

More than three decades after a woman was found shot to death in rural Iowa, authorities have arrested a Minnesota man in connection with the long-unsolved case.

Kelly Grant, 59, of Bertha, Minnesota, has been charged with first-degree murder in the 1995 death of Angela “Angie” Renee Buck, who was 37 when her body was discovered near a creek in Black Hawk County, Iowa, on August 11, 1995.

According to authorities, two people hunting turtles discovered Buck’s body along the creek bank near a bridge. An autopsy determined that she had died from a gunshot wound, and investigators classified her death as a homicide.

The investigation continued for years as law enforcement pursued leads and conducted interviews. According to the criminal complaint, witnesses reported that Buck and Grant had been together at a residence before an argument allegedly took place. One witness also told investigators that Buck was forcibly taken from the home and placed in a vehicle.

Authorities continued examining the case over the decades, with investigators from Iowa and Minnesota working together on the investigation. Their efforts eventually led to Grant’s arrest in October 2026.

Grant is being held without bond in Minnesota as the case proceeds. The murder charge is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

For Buck’s loved ones, the arrest marks a significant development in a case that remained unresolved for more than 30 years.
