New Jersey Teacher Pleads Guilty After Giving Birth to Student’s Child at Age 13

A former New Jersey elementary school teacher has pleaded guilty to a child endangerment charge after prosecutors accused her of sexually abusing a student over several years, beginning when he was just 11 years old.

Laura Caron, 36, formerly a fifth-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School, entered a guilty plea on October 28 to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child with sexual conduct, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.

Investigators said the alleged abuse took place between 2016 and 2020, while the boy and his siblings were living at Caron’s home. The children’s mother had reportedly become close to Caron after she taught their older sister and later trusted her to help care for the family.

A probable-cause statement cited in earlier reporting said Caron gave birth to a daughter in 2019, when the student was 13 and Caron was 27. The boy later reportedly told his sister that he was the child’s father.

The case came to light after the boy’s father noticed a resemblance between his son and Caron’s young daughter in a photograph shared on social media. Authorities subsequently investigated the alleged relationship.

Caron was arrested in January 2025 and later indicted. Her guilty plea calls for a five-year sentence in New Jersey State Prison. She must also surrender her teaching license and forfeit future public employment.

Before sentencing, Caron will undergo an evaluation at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center to determine whether her conduct is classified as repetitive or compulsive, a finding that could affect the sentence. After serving her prison term, she will be required to register under Megan’s Law and remain under parole supervision for life.

The case has drawn attention because the former student, now an adult, has publicly defended Caron and said he does not consider himself a victim. His views do not change the criminal charge to which Caron has pleaded guilty.

Caron is scheduled to be sentenced on January 8, 2027.
