Ohio Mother of 16 Pleads Not Guilty to New Sexual Abuse Charges After 16 Children Were Found in Deplorable Conditions

An Ohio mother whose 16 children were discovered living in unsafe and deplorable conditions is now facing additional felony charges involving alleged sexual misconduct against a child related to her.

Elizabeth Siders, 33, appeared in Vinton County Court of Common Pleas on September 16, 2026, and pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual battery and two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. According to the indictment, the alleged victim was between 13 and 16 years old and was not one of the 16 children found living in Siders’ home.

The case began on June 30, when authorities executed a search warrant at a residence on Ohmer Street in Hamden as part of an investigation into allegations of unlawful sexual conduct involving a minor. During the search, investigators discovered 16 children living inside the home in what authorities described as unsafe conditions.

The children, who ranged in age from about 18 months to 18 years, were removed from the residence and placed in temporary custody. Authorities said the children were initially taken to local hospitals for medical evaluations, with some receiving treatment and others requiring more extensive medical care.

Elizabeth and her husband, Gary Siders Jr., were subsequently indicted on multiple child-endangerment charges. Elizabeth faces 19 counts in that case, including felony and misdemeanor charges. Gary Jr. faces the same number of child-endangerment counts, while Gary Siders Sr. and Christina Siders also face multiple charges related to the children’s care.

The investigation later expanded. In August, a Vinton County grand jury indicted Elizabeth and Gary Jr. on four sexual-offense counts each. Prosecutors allege that the two engaged in sexual conduct with a minor between January and September 2022. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office said the alleged victim was not an immediate family member of either defendant.

At Elizabeth’s September 16 arraignment, the judge imposed an additional $250,000 bond on the sexual-offense case, on top of the $300,000 bond already set in the child-endangerment case. Her attorney, Thomas Stolly, argued for a lower combined bond and said she did not have the ability to post it.

Elizabeth’s competency remains another unresolved issue. Her attorney previously requested an evaluation to determine whether she is competent to stand trial and whether an insanity defense may be appropriate. As of her September 16 hearing, the evaluation report had not yet been filed with the court.

Meanwhile, Gary Siders Sr., 73, has already been ruled incompetent to stand trial. A psychiatric evaluation concluded that he was not likely to be restored to competency. He was released on his own recognizance while prosecutors determine how to proceed. Christina Siders and Gary Siders Jr. are also undergoing competency evaluations.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office has emphasized that the indictments represent criminal allegations, not convictions. The investigation and legal proceedings remain ongoing, while the children removed from the home continue to receive care and support.
