Pennsylvania Man Kills Five Family Members in Shooting and House Fire Before Turning Gun on Himself

A family gathering in East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, ended in tragedy when a 43-year-old man allegedly shot several relatives, opened fire on responding police officers, and set the family home ablaze. Five members of the same family died, while two officers were injured during the incident.
The violence unfolded on February 7, 2024, after Canh Le reportedly argued with his 13-year-old niece, Nakayla Le, inside the family home. According to Delaware County prosecutors, he went to his bedroom to retrieve a firearm before the situation escalated.
Authorities said Le fatally shot his brother, Xuong Le, 40, his sister-in-law, Britni McLaughlin-Le, 37, and two of their children, Natalya, 17, and Nakayla, 13.
When police arrived, Le allegedly fired at the responding officers, injuring two of them. He then set the house on fire. The couple’s youngest child, 10-year-old Xavier, died from smoke inhalation, according to investigators.
Le subsequently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound before officers could reach him.

The fire caused extensive damage to the home, making the identification of the victims difficult. Investigators relied on dental records and DNA testing to confirm the identities of those who died.
The children were remembered by loved ones for their individual personalities and interests. Natalya was a high school senior who enjoyed crafting and graphic design, while Nakayla was described as a talented dancer. Xavier was remembered as a protective and caring brother.
The children’s grandparents, who also lived in the house, survived the tragedy but lost several close family members and their home.
Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer described the incident as an overwhelming tragedy. Investigators said the precise motive behind the shootings might never be fully understood, as Le died at the scene.
The case left a community grieving and raised painful questions about how a family dispute could escalate into such devastating violence.
