Police Renew Search for Suspect 10 Years After San Francisco Man Was Murdered

Ten years after a 24-year-old man was shot and killed on a San Francisco street, police are once again asking the public for help identifying the person responsible.

Mitchell Davis Warren was killed in the early morning hours of September 30, 2016, near the intersection of Polk and Ellis streets in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood.

Warren Was Found With a Gunshot Wound

According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded to the area at approximately 4:30 a.m. after a shooting was reported.

They found Warren suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The case was investigated as a homicide, but the person responsible has never been publicly identified or arrested.

Surveillance Video Captured a Possible Suspect

Investigators obtained surveillance footage that shows a person believed to be connected to the killing.

In the footage, one man can be seen riding on the handlebars of a bicycle while another person pedals. Police say the person riding on the handlebars is the suspect they are seeking.

The person who was pedaling the bicycle has since been identified, but investigators have not publicly identified the other individual.

Ten Years Later, Police Still Want Answers

The anniversary of Warren’s death has prompted renewed attention to the case.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes the person shown in the surveillance images or who remembers seeing something unusual in the area around the time of the shooting to contact investigators.

Authorities have also emphasized that even information that may appear insignificant could help investigators establish what happened that morning.

Family Still Seeking Closure

Warren’s family has continued to seek answers over the decade since his death.

The San Francisco Police Department said the family is still hoping for information that could help identify the person responsible and bring the case closer to a resolution.

Police have authorized a reward for information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person responsible for Warren’s murder.

Cold Case Remains Open

The investigation remains active. Police have not announced an arrest or publicly identified a motive for the killing.

Ten years after Warren’s death, investigators are relying on surveillance footage, public assistance and any new information that could help move the case forward.
