Radio Legend’s Daughter Sentenced After Fake Twin Pregnancy Scandal Involving ‘The Bachelor’ Star

The daughter of two prominent Bay Area radio personalities has been sentenced to jail after admitting to an elaborate scheme involving fabricated pregnancies, falsified medical evidence and claims that former The Bachelor star Clayton Echard had fathered her twins.

Laura Owens, 36, was sentenced in an Arizona court on October 23, 2026, to 30 days in county jail followed by seven years of probation. The ruling brought a dramatic end to a legal saga that began with a paternity lawsuit and eventually developed into a criminal investigation involving two men.

Owens is the daughter of longtime San Francisco radio host Ronn Owens and former KCBS news anchor Jan Black.

The claim that sparked a courtroom battle

The controversy began in 2023, when Owens claimed she was pregnant with twins after an encounter with Echard, who starred in the 26th season of ABC’s The Bachelor.

She filed a paternity lawsuit seeking child support, but Echard denied that he was the father and disputed her account of their encounter.

As the legal proceedings continued, questions emerged about the medical evidence Owens had submitted. She eventually claimed she had suffered a miscarriage and attempted to withdraw the case.

However, a family court judge identified inconsistencies in her statements and referred the matter to prosecutors.

Investigators later alleged that Owens had altered an ultrasound image, fabricated a pregnancy video and repeatedly lied under oath to support her claims.

In June 2024, the family court ruled in Echard’s favor, finding that Owens had knowingly presented a false claim and that there was insufficient evidence establishing that she had been pregnant.

Investigators uncovered another alleged pregnancy scheme

The investigation expanded beyond Echard after authorities examined Owens’ previous relationship with another man, Greg Gillespie.

Prosecutors alleged that Owens had made similar pregnancy claims involving Gillespie, including telling him she was expecting twins. Investigators said she used falsified documents and another person’s medical images to support the claims.

The criminal case eventually resulted in a grand jury indictment involving multiple felony counts, including fraudulent schemes, forgery, perjury and identity-related offenses.

In August 2026, Owens reached a plea agreement and admitted guilt to four felony charges: two counts of fraudulent schemes and artifices, one count of perjury and one count of taking the identity of another. Ten other charges were dismissed under the agreement.

A 30-day jail sentence

During the October sentencing hearing, Owens apologized to the two men and acknowledged the pain and financial burden her actions had caused.

Clayton Echard also addressed the court, describing the prolonged legal battle and its impact on his life. His attorney said the case had affected more people than just the reality television star.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, the judge imposed 30 days in jail and seven years of probation. Owens could face additional consequences if she violates the terms of her probation.

The case drew widespread attention because of its unusual combination of reality television fame, disputed pregnancy claims and an extensive criminal investigation.

For Echard and the other man involved, the sentencing marked the conclusion of a legal ordeal that had lasted several years.
