6-Year-Old Boy Tried to Protect His Little Sister During Alleged Attack by Their Mother333

A six-year-old boy is being praised for his courage after he was reportedly injured while trying to protect his three-year-old sister during a frightening incident at their home in South Carolina.
According to The U.S. Sun, Dawson and his younger sister, Hazel, were found with serious injuries on September 26, 2026, after deputies responded to a welfare check at their home in Spartanburg County.
Authorities allege that their mother, 35-year-old Taylor Gosnell, attacked both children with a kitchen knife. She was later arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder.
A Little Boy’s Possible Act of Courage
The children’s grandmother, Jan Marie Mull, believes Dawson may have suffered more serious injuries because he was trying to shield his younger sister.
Speaking to The U.S. Sun, Mull described the heartbreak of learning that her grandchildren had been rushed to the hospital.
According to the report, doctors were concerned that Dawson might lose an arm and some fingers because of the severity of his injuries.
Both Children Are Expected to Survive
Despite the seriousness of the incident, authorities said Dawson and Hazel were in stable condition and expected to survive.
The grandmother also spoke about the emotional struggle of dealing with the alleged attack on her grandchildren, describing feelings of grief, anger and uncertainty.
Gosnell is being held without bond, and her next court appearance was reported to be scheduled for November 12.
Investigators have not publicly established a motive for the incident. The allegations against Gosnell remain subject to the legal process.
For the family, the immediate focus is on the children’s recovery and the long road ahead after a traumatic experience.
