Tajinderpal Singh Toor Dedicates Asian Games Silver to His Baby Daughter
For Indian shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor, his silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games carried a meaning that went far beyond the result on the field.
The 31-year-old athlete dedicated the medal to his 10-month-old daughter, Rabab Kaur Toor, after finishing second in the men’s shot put competition in Nagoya, Japan.
A Medal for His Daughter
Toor produced a best throw of 20.64 metres to win silver. Iran’s Mohammadreza Tayebise took gold with 20.81 metres, setting a new Asian Games record.
Although Toor missed the chance to win his third consecutive Asian Games gold medal, he said the silver had a special personal meaning because of his daughter.
Rabab was born in November 2025 after Toor and his wife had previously experienced two pregnancy losses, in 2022 and 2024.
“This medal is for my daughter Rabab Kaur Toor,” Toor told The Indian Express. He described his daughter as a lucky charm for the family.

From Two Difficult Losses to a New Beginning
The birth of Rabab brought happiness to the family after the couple had gone through two painful miscarriages.
Toor’s decision to dedicate his medal to his daughter reflected how closely his sporting journey had become connected with his life away from competition.
After the final positions were confirmed, Toor was seen with the Indian flag and folded his hands in prayer.
Another Medal After Years of Injuries
The silver medal was also another chapter in Toor’s long career. He has competed through several injuries, including calf, groin, knee and ankle problems at different stages.
He had won Asian Games gold in Jakarta in 2018 and again in Hangzhou in 2022. His latest silver means he has now stood on the podium at three consecutive Asian Games.
Toor’s best career throw remains 21.77 metres, recorded in 2023. Despite the challenges he has faced, he continues to believe he can throw farther in the future.
A Different Kind of Celebration
The Nagoya medal did not complete the gold-medal hat-trick Toor had hoped for. Instead, it gave him something more personal to celebrate.
His daughter was born less than a year ago, and Toor chose to share his latest Asian Games achievement with her as a symbol of a new chapter for his family.
