The Groom I Never Married
PART 2 — The Man Who Never Gave Up
“Does this mean you finally want to be my wife?”
Matvey was still kneeling in front of me, holding the diamond ring.
I looked at him, then glanced through the café window.
Kirill was still standing across the street.
His expression had changed from disbelief to anger.
I slowly turned back to Matvey.
“Yes,” I whispered. “If you’re still sure.”
Matvey smiled.
“Sonya, I’ve been sure for ten years.”
He slipped the ring onto my finger and stood up, pulling me into his arms.
For a moment, I forgot everyone else existed.
Then he gently kissed my forehead.
“Come on. Let’s get married.”
I laughed nervously. “You just flew from Germany. Aren’t you exhausted?”
“I can sleep after marrying you.”
Before I could answer, the café door swung open.
Kirill stormed inside.
“What the hell is going on?”
Matvey turned around, his expression immediately becoming cold.
Kirill pointed at me.
“Sonya, what is this? You’re marrying another man just because I registered my marriage with Larisa?”
I stared at him.
“You already married her. Why are you interested in what I do?”
Kirill scoffed.
“Don’t be ridiculous. You know our relationship isn’t over. I told you I needed time to settle things with Larisa.”
Matvey stepped between us.
“Did you just say you still have a relationship with my fiancée?”
Kirill looked him up and down.
“And who are you?”
Matvey extended his left hand, showing the expensive watch on his wrist.
“Matvey Seversky.”
Kirill’s expression changed instantly.
Everyone in the business world knew that name.
He swallowed.
“Mr. Seversky? This is a private matter between me and Sonya.”
“No,” Matvey replied calmly. “It became my business when you grabbed her and humiliated her in public.”
Kirill clenched his jaw.
“Sonya and I were together for seven years. You can’t just appear and take her away.”
I finally stood up.
“Kirill, you didn’t lose me today. You lost me when you decided another woman deserved to be your wife while I was standing beside you with our marriage application.”
He looked stunned.

“I explained everything!”
“You explained that I should wait patiently while you played husband to someone else.”
Larisa suddenly appeared at the doorway, holding their marriage certificate.
“Kirill, darling, what’s taking so long?”
Her smile disappeared when she saw Matvey.
She immediately understood the situation.
“Sonya, surely you aren’t serious about this? You barely know Mr. Seversky compared to Kirill.”
I smiled faintly.
“That’s true. But at least he didn’t ask me to share the man I love.”
Matvey gently took my handbag.
“Shall we go, sweetheart?”
I nodded.
Kirill stepped forward.
“Sonya! You’ll regret this!”
Matvey paused beside the door.
“Perhaps. But she’ll never regret leaving someone who thought her dignity was negotiable.”
Then we walked out together.
For the first time in seven years, I didn’t look back.
At the registry office, Matvey’s assistant had already arranged the necessary documents.
The registrar looked surprised when Matvey entered wearing a slightly crooked tie.
“Mr. Seversky, are you certain you want to proceed today?”
Matvey looked at me.
“More certain than I’ve ever been about any business decision.”
I laughed.
A few minutes later, we stood before the registrar.
When she asked whether I agreed to become his wife, my voice trembled.
“I do.”
Matvey’s answer came immediately.
“I do.”
And just like that, I became Mrs. Seversky.
Outside, Matvey held my hand and whispered, “Welcome home, Sonya.”
I thought my difficult morning was finally over.
But I had no idea that Kirill was already making phone calls.
And he wasn’t calling to apologize.
