The Pink Suitcase PART 3 — RAFAEL’S LAST SECRET

The Pink Suitcase
PART 3 — RAFAEL’S LAST SECRET
Corbin was taken to the estate’s underground security room.
Damon wanted to question him immediately, but Marcus stopped him.
“Boss, the recording was stored on a remote server. Corbin may have triggered a backup before destroying the phone.”
“Recover it.”
Within twenty minutes, Marcus had retrieved an encrypted audio file and a location connected to Rafael’s old safe deposit box.
The bank was in downtown Phoenix.
Damon looked at the silver key in his palm.
“Prepare the car.”
Ruby tugged at his sleeve.
“Can I come with you?”
“No, sweetheart. It’s dangerous.”
“But Mommy said I have to give you something.”
She opened her pink suitcase and pulled out a small, folded photograph hidden beneath her clothes.
Damon took it.
The photograph showed Rafael standing beside Selena in front of a small white house. Selena was visibly pregnant, and Rafael had one hand resting gently on her stomach.
On the back, someone had written a date.
It was dated three months before Rafael’s death.
Damon stared at the picture, struggling to understand.
“Was this your daddy?” he asked softly.
Ruby nodded.
“Mommy said he went to heaven. But she said he loved me before I was born.”
Damon closed his eyes briefly.
Rafael had never told him about Selena. Not once. Yet the photograph showed a tenderness Damon had rarely witnessed in his brother.
“Ruby,” he said carefully, “did your mother tell you why she came to work here?”
“She said she needed to hide.”
“From Corbin?”
Ruby shook her head.
“From the bad men. But she said Uncle Damon would keep me safe.”
Uncle Damon.

The words struck him harder than he expected.
He had been so consumed by grief and revenge that he had never noticed how a quiet woman in his mansion carried a secret capable of changing his family forever.
At the bank, Damon used the key to open Rafael’s deposit box.
Inside lay a sealed envelope, a flash drive, and a document bearing Rafael’s signature.
The document identified Selena as the legal guardian of his daughter, Ruby Castillo.
But it was the letter that made Damon’s hands tremble.
Damon,
If you’re reading this, I failed to protect my family.
Ruby is my daughter. Selena and I planned to tell you after I settled the dispute with Corbin, but I discovered he had been selling our family’s routes to our enemies.
He found out I had proof. If anything happens to me, he’ll try to erase every trace of the truth.
There’s one more thing. Corbin didn’t act alone.
Someone inside our family gave him the information he needed.
I trusted that person with my life.
You trust him, too.
The letter ended there.
Damon read it twice.
Then he inserted the flash drive into a secure laptop.
A video appeared.
Rafael sat in a dimly lit office, his face bruised and his shirt stained with blood.
“If you’re watching this, Damon, I’m probably dead.”
He took a shaky breath.
“Corbin is involved, but he’s not the mastermind. The person behind everything is someone who has been standing beside you for years. Someone who knows your habits, your security codes, and every weakness in the Reyes organization.”
Rafael leaned closer to the camera.
“Don’t let him near Ruby. He knows she exists, and he’ll use her to control you.”
The video ended with a name.
Adrian Reyes.
Damon went completely still.
Adrian was his cousin, his childhood companion, and the man currently managing the family’s western operations. Damon had trusted him with millions of dollars and the keys to every major property he owned.
His phone rang.
Marcus was calling.
“Boss, we have a problem. Corbin escaped during a transfer. Two guards are injured, and we’ve lost contact with the team protecting Selena.”
Damon stood so abruptly that the chair fell behind him.
“Where is Ruby?”
“She’s at the estate with the medical team.”
“Get her into the armored vehicle. I’m coming back now.”
But as Damon rushed toward the exit, his phone received a message from an unknown number.
It contained a photograph of Selena lying in a hospital bed.
Ruby stood beside her, holding her mother’s hand.
Beneath the image were six words.
Bring the key, or they die.
Damon’s expression turned ice-cold.
A second message followed.
Come alone. Trust no one.
He stared at Rafael’s final warning on the laptop screen.
For years, Damon had believed the greatest threat to his empire came from rival families, corrupt officials, and men who wanted his territory.
Now he understood that the most dangerous enemy was someone who knew exactly how much he loved his family.
He called Marcus.
“Change the route. Nobody gets the key except me. And find Adrian before he realizes we know.”
“Understood, boss.”
Damon ended the call and looked once more at the photograph of Ruby.
He had lost his brother.
He would not lose his daughter.
As he stepped into the waiting vehicle, Damon made a decision that would change the Reyes family forever.
If Adrian wanted a war, he would get one.
But this time, Damon wouldn’t fight to protect his empire.
He would fight to bring his family home.
