The Suspicious Breakfast PART 3 — THE SECRET BEHIND THE MEAL

The Suspicious Breakfast
PART 3 — THE SECRET BEHIND THE MEAL
Michael didn’t wait another second.
He called his wife, Elizabeth, while his security team hurried them into a private vehicle.
The phone rang once.
Twice.
Then someone answered.
“Hello, Michael.”
It wasn’t Elizabeth.
It was a man’s voice.
Michael’s face went rigid.
“Who is this? Put my wife on the phone.”
Ava sat beside him, watching the color drain from his face.
The stranger chuckled.
“Your daughter was clever enough to avoid breakfast. Let’s see whether you’re clever enough to understand what’s happening.”
“Touch my wife, and you’ll regret it.”
“Then stop asking questions about the shipments.”
The call ended.
Michael immediately ordered his security team to contact the police and send officers to his home.
Ava grabbed his sleeve.
“Dad, Mom is there alone?”
“Not for long.”
He tried to sound calm, but she could hear the fear in his voice.
Minutes later, the vehicle stopped outside a secure operations building near the airport. Michael led Ava inside, where a team was already examining the photographs and messages.
One investigator approached them.
“Mr. Carter, we’ve accessed the suspect’s phone. There are several encrypted messages, but one recent conversation mentions a shipment scheduled to leave tonight.”
“What kind of shipment?”
“We’re still checking. However, the messages suggest someone has been using your company’s name to move unauthorized goods.”
Michael understood immediately.
For weeks, he had been investigating discrepancies in his international logistics business. Someone had manipulated shipping records, diverted money, and used forged documents to conceal the operation.
He had refused an offer to quietly sell his company to a mysterious investment group.
Now that same group appeared to be threatening his family.
“Find out who sent those messages,” he ordered. “And notify the authorities about the shipment. Nobody confronts these people without police support.”
Ava stood beside a glass wall, listening.
“Dad,” she said suddenly, “can I see the photograph of the man again?”
Michael handed it to her.
She studied the image carefully.
“That’s strange.”
“What is?”
“The man who brought my tray had a scar above his left eyebrow. But look at the picture on this badge.”
Michael leaned closer.
The photograph on the forged identification showed Robert Hayes without a scar.
Ava pointed to the image.

“Maybe the scar was fake. Or maybe this man wasn’t Robert Hayes at all.”
The investigator immediately examined the photographs side by side.
“You may be right,” he admitted. “We need to verify the suspect’s identity.”
Michael looked at his daughter with a mixture of pride and concern.
She had noticed a detail several adults had overlooked.
Then the investigator’s computer chimed.
“We’ve identified the person who accessed the catering records,” he announced. “It was an employee using credentials belonging to your executive office.”
Michael stiffened.
“Whose credentials?”
The investigator turned the screen toward him.
The name displayed there belonged to Jonathan Price, Michael’s personal assistant.
For a moment, Michael said nothing.
Jonathan had worked for him for eight years. He had attended family celebrations, helped organize charity events, and had been trusted with confidential business information.
“That’s impossible,” Michael finally said.
“His credentials were used to access Ava’s flight details and the catering schedule. We haven’t established whether he personally did it.”
Michael immediately ordered the investigator to preserve the records and contact law enforcement.
Then his phone rang again.
This time, it was Elizabeth.
“Michael?” Her voice trembled. “There are police officers at the house. They say someone tried to enter through the back door.”
“Are you safe?”
“Yes. I’m in the locked study with the housekeeper. But Michael, I found something strange in your office.”
“What?”
“A folder hidden beneath the bottom drawer. It contains copies of the shipping records you’ve been investigating.”
Michael closed his eyes briefly.
“Don’t touch anything. Stay with the officers.”
Elizabeth hesitated.
“There’s a note inside, too.”
“What does it say?”
Her answer came in a whisper.
“Ask Jonathan why he sold your daughter’s flight information.”
The call fell silent.
Michael slowly lowered his phone.
Ava looked up at him.
“Dad, was Jonathan the one who wanted me to eat that breakfast?”
“I don’t know yet,” Michael replied. “And we won’t accuse anyone until we have proof.”
But the betrayal had already begun to take shape.
Someone inside his trusted circle had accessed Ava’s travel details. Someone had arranged for an unauthorized meal to reach her seat. And someone was using his family’s safety to force him into surrendering his company.
Then a final message arrived from an unknown number.
It contained a photograph of Jonathan Price entering a private parking garage the previous evening.
Standing beside him was the man with the scar.
Below the photograph were the words:
Ask your assistant what happened to the original shipment.
Michael stared at the screen.
Ava reached for his hand.
“Dad, what are we going to do?”
He squeezed her fingers and looked toward the investigators.
“We’re going to find the truth. And this time, whoever is behind it won’t be able to hide.”
Outside, police sirens echoed across the airport grounds.
The suspicious breakfast had uncovered something far more dangerous than a single act of sabotage.
And somewhere in the city, the person who had planned it was already preparing their next move.
