The Wife He Lost
PART 2 — THE SECRET HE COULDN’T IGNORE
Vincent Moretti had never been a man who accepted rejection.
Yet for three days, Claire refused every call, every message, and every attempt his men made to contact her.
He returned to the mansion on the evening of the third day, expecting to find his wife waiting in their bedroom.
Instead, he found her wedding ring on the dining table.
Beside it lay the divorce papers.
His jaw tightened.
“Where is Claire?”
The housekeeper lowered her eyes.
“Mrs. Moretti left, sir. She took only a few personal belongings.”
Vincent threw his phone onto the table.
“She can’t leave without telling me where she’s going.”
His right-hand man, Marco, hesitated.
“Boss, perhaps you should read this.”
He handed Vincent a document.
It was a medical appointment confirmation from the hospital. Claire’s name was printed at the top, followed by the words: Seven weeks pregnant.
Vincent stared at it.
His wife was carrying his child.
And he had discovered it only because she had finally decided to leave him.
“Find her,” he ordered. “I want to know where she’s staying. And make sure nobody approaches her without my permission.”
Marco nodded.
But before he could leave, Vincent’s phone rang.
Sophia.
“Vincent, I’m scared,” she whispered. “The doctor says I need to rest. Can you come over?”
Vincent looked at the phone, then at Claire’s wedding ring.
For the first time, he didn’t immediately answer Sophia.
“I’m busy.”
He ended the call.
Meanwhile, Claire was staying in a quiet apartment Madison had arranged for her.
She had already hired a divorce attorney and instructed him to handle all communication with Vincent.
“I don’t want his money,” Claire said firmly. “I only want my freedom and legal protection for my baby.”
Madison hugged her.
“You don’t have to prove anything to him anymore.”
Claire smiled faintly.
That evening, her attorney called with unexpected news.
“Claire, there’s something you should know about your marriage.”

“What is it?”
“Your husband recently transferred a significant amount of marital assets into a company controlled by Sophia Reynolds. We need to investigate whether those transfers were authorized and whether they affected your legal interests.”
Claire closed her eyes.
So it wasn’t just an affair.
Vincent had been using their marriage to protect another woman financially.
“Proceed with the investigation,” she replied.
Then she looked at the ultrasound photograph on her bedside table.
“I have nothing more to lose.”
What Claire didn’t know was that Vincent had already discovered Sophia’s biggest secret.
And it would change everything.
