The Wife He Threw Away

PART 3 — The Secret Behind Nine Years

I stared at the photograph for several seconds.

Then another message appeared.

Meet me at the old railway station. Come alone. I have proof.

Kirill noticed my expression.

“What’s wrong?”

I showed him the messages.

He immediately shook his head.

“Don’t go alone.”

“I need to know what this is about.”

“Then we’ll go together. I’ll wait nearby, but I won’t interfere unless you need me.”

An hour later, I arrived at the old railway station.

A woman in a gray coat was standing near the entrance. When she turned around, I recognized her immediately.

Alina.

She looked exhausted, and her pregnant belly was hidden beneath a loose coat.

“Dasha,” she whispered.

“What do you want?”

She lowered her eyes.

“I need to tell you the truth about Mark.”

I crossed my arms.

“I’m listening.”

Alina took a small envelope from her handbag.

“I’m pregnant, but the baby isn’t Mark’s.”

For a moment, I couldn’t speak.

She continued hurriedly.

“Mark knows. He found out months ago. But he still wanted me to pretend the child was his because he needed an heir to secure control of his family’s company.”

I looked at her in disbelief.

“Why would you agree to that?”

“Because he promised to pay my debts. I thought I could leave after the baby was born.”

She handed me the envelope.

Inside were copies of bank transfers, private messages, and company documents.

My fingers trembled as I read them.

Mark had used my signature on several financial agreements without my knowledge. He had transferred money from an account connected to my inheritance and concealed the transactions through his company.

The total amount was enormous.

“He told everyone you were financially dependent on him,” Alina said quietly. “But the truth is, he used your money to build his empire.”

I looked at the documents again.

Nine years.

Nine years of believing I had nothing.

Yet I had helped build everything he now claimed belonged to him.

“Why are you telling me this?”

Alina’s eyes filled with tears.

“Because yesterday, I overheard him talking to his lawyer. He plans to accuse you of stealing company funds if you continue with the divorce.”

A cold feeling spread through my chest.

So that was his plan.

If he couldn’t control me through guilt, he would try to destroy me through fear.

Just then, a familiar voice came from behind us.

“Dasha!”

Mark.

He approached with two security guards, his face twisted with fury.

“Give me those documents!”

I stepped backward.

“No.”

“You have no idea what you’re holding!”

“I know exactly what I’m holding. Evidence of what you did.”

He reached toward the envelope, but Kirill appeared beside me.

“Touch her, and you’ll have a serious problem.”

Mark froze.

Kirill’s expression was ice-cold.

“I’ve already sent copies of those documents to my legal team. Every transaction will be investigated.”

Mark’s face lost its color.

“You wouldn’t dare.”

Kirill smiled without warmth.

“Try me.”

I looked directly at my former husband.

“You told me I had nothing without you. You were wrong, Mark. I had something you could never buy.”

He narrowed his eyes.

“What?”

“My dignity.”

I turned away.

That afternoon, Kirill’s lawyers began preparing a formal investigation into the unauthorized transfers. I also hired an independent attorney to represent me in the divorce proceedings.

For the first time, I wasn’t running away from Mark.

I was prepared to face him.

Three days later, an invitation arrived at the restaurant.

It was from Elena Samoilov.

She was hosting a grand family anniversary celebration at the Rublyovka mansion and had specifically requested my presence.

Kirill read the invitation and raised an eyebrow.

“Are you going?”

I looked at the elegant envelope.

Nine years earlier, I had entered that mansion as a poor young bride, believing I would spend my life making that family happy.

This time, I would return as a woman who no longer needed their approval.

“Yes,” I answered.

Kirill offered me his arm.

“Then let’s make sure they remember this evening.”

I smiled.

I wasn’t going back to beg for my place.

I was going back to reclaim the truth.

And Mark Samoilov had no idea that the biggest surprise of the evening was still waiting for him.
