Unidentified Homicide Victim Found Inside Burning Florida Home as Resident Disappears

Authorities in Hawthorne, Florida, faced a troubling mystery after firefighters discovered an adult body inside a burning house, while the home’s 69-year-old resident remained missing.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews responded to a fire at a residence on Cottonwood Drive after a neighbor reported the blaze on the morning of March 6, 2023.
After entering the property, firefighters discovered the body of an adult inside. Investigators later determined that the death was a homicide, but officials said the victim’s identity was still awaiting confirmation from the medical examiner because of the condition in which the body was found.
Meanwhile, deputies were searching for the homeowner, Louis Stackhouse, who was 69 at the time. Authorities said he had not been located and were also looking for his silver 2008 Saturn Sky, a two-seat sports car that belonged to him.
The circumstances raised urgent questions: Who was the person found inside the burning home, and where was the missing resident? At the time of the report, investigators had not publicly established whether Stackhouse was the victim or whether he was missing.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation was ongoing and asked anyone with information about Stackhouse or his vehicle to contact authorities.
